NEPIP is the abbreviation of NeuroEndoPsychoImmunoPody. It is an advanced reflexology treatment effective in helping people suffering from stress and anxiety. It is exclusively performed by Level 5 Practitioners.
Stress is necessary, healthy, and unavoidable.
We experience it to ready our bodies for movement and improved performance in difficult situations.
However, our ancestors did not experience the chronic stresses of modern-day people, and human physiology has not yet adapted to what stress means for us in contemporary life. We are no longer running from bears or fending off enemies at the cave entrance; modern stresses are daily, protracted, and often without resolution. Cortisol and adrenaline levels, designed to flood our bodies for minutes or hours to get us out of sticky situations, can now be chronically elevated. This leads to a wide range of alarming symptoms, and can have serious consequences for our long-term health.
NeuroEndoPsychoImmunoPody (NEPIP) is a Level 5 Practitioner treatment focused on the body’s responses to stress.
The name combines the elements of this specialist technique:
Neurology
relates to the nervous system.
Endocrinology
is the medical approach to the endocrine (hormonal) system.
Psychology
derives from the Greek word psyche, meaning spirit or soul, and refers to the study of the mind and behaviour.
Immunology
is the study of the immune system.
Pody
is feet in Greek, in reference to the techniques used in reflexology.
Training in NEPIP combines these elements, and is the scientific study of the relationship between our brain, our nervous system, the endocrine system, and how this affects our health via the immune system. Treatment using the NEPIP approach is a powerful tool in combating the negative impact of stress on our bodies, and promoting positive change in our wellbeing, lifestyles, and habits.
It is a deeply relaxing and affirming treatment, and may result in the release of deep emotions, leading to a sense of profound peace and depressurisation.
A NEPIP session involves me working on both feet at the same time in a slow and measured way and using visualisations and affirmations for each system in turn. It's a little like a Yoga Nidra session if you've ever experienced one of those.
