Please get in touch if you have any queries about reflexology and how it might be beneficial for you. Below, I have answered some of my most frequently asked questions…
Please reach me at victoria.mitchell@wellness-reflexology.co.uk or 07818194256 if you cannot find an answer to your question.
If it is your first treatment with me, I will run through a health questionnaire with you to better understand any medications you are on, health concerns, contraindications (things like deep vein thrombosis or phlebitis may mean that I cannot treat you at that time).
It is also important for me to understand what you would like from your treatment, how firm or light you prefer the fingertip pressure I use, any allergies to creams or oils etc.
Finally, I will, with your permission, take a photo of each foot. This will remain perfectly anonymous; however, it’s astonishing how the lines, creases and marks on the feet can correspond to the underlying reflex and how these can change over the course of a few treatments. Photos allow us to track these changes and see how they correlate to how you're feeling (you can of course view your notes and any information I have relating to your treatments at any time).
I will ask you to sign a Data Protection Agreement which lets you know in detail how I hold and protect your information and privacy, and your rights regarding this. We both sign this, and you keep a copy.
Your first treatment can take up to 90 minutes. The first 15-30 minutes will be filling out the necessary paperwork and discussing your health concerns, if any. Then you will receive 60 minutes of hands-on treatment. This first treatment is priced the same as the 60 minute follow up treatments to keep things simple!
You will recline in my portable LaFuma Chair in the comfort of my private and quiet room. If you have mobility issues or would rather be treated in your own home, this can be arranged as long as you are in a smoke free environment and have a suitable quiet space for treatment. I do reserve the right to decline home treatments as these are on a case by case basis.
Not at all. The only things you will need to remove are your shoes and socks. I will clean your feet before we start, so there is no need to worry if you have been at work all day!
Most people find having their feet worked on feels deeply relaxing. As I use my thumbs and fingers to gently press over each reflex in turn, you may feel some tenderness in places. If you do, please let me know, as this is not only perfectly normal but very useful. This will give us a picture of what to work on in your detailed treatment plan.
For example, someone who has a lot of stress either with work or home life will usually have tender adrenal gland reflexes, tender neck and shoulder areas, and potentially tenderness through the digestive system. A person who is pre-diabetic may feel something when I work over the pancreas, and so on.
This very much depends on what you are hoping for from reflexology. While there are no guarantees of a specific outcome, in my experience, conditions are more likely to show an improvement after 2-3 treatments; however, I will never sell you treatments, it will be entirely your choice.
Sometimes after a treatment you may feel tired, perhaps headachy or achy in general. This is entirely normal; however, not everyone will experience this, and it very much depends on you and your health at the time. I will give you an aftercare sheet which recommends resting if you need to, drinking plenty of water (very important to flush any toxins) and avoiding caffeine and alcohol.
I will also give you a sheet to record how you feel, any improvement or change in symptoms, sleep etc. This gives us both an ideal way of tracking changes and means I can adjust your next session accordingly. You are most welcome to contact me in between sessions if you have any concerns or questions at all.
A 60 minute session costs just £45 and a 30 minute session £22. I don't charge more for the initial consultation but do please allow 90 minutes for the first one.
Some workplaces offer insurance to their staff and it is worth checking as you may be able to claim the cost of your treatments. I am member of the Complementary and Natural Heathcare Council (CNHC) and a member of the Association of Reflexologists (AoR) and can provide a receipt with both registration numbers for the purpose of claiming.
I have completed a Level 5 Diploma in Practitioner Reflexology with the Contemporary Reflexology College run by Allison Walker. This qualification is the highest level of qualification in this field, the equivalent of a Foundation degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) and is governed by Agored Cymru and Centralia meaning the course is externally validated and accredited.
The course takes 12 months to complete with nearly 200 classroom hours studying anatomy and physiology, diseases, medications and common conditions, how to devise an effective, individual treatment plan and techniques and protocols with hands on practice. This is then verified via 6 practical exams and over 100 hours of case study experience.
I am also qualifying in Chi Medics, a lovely energy balance approach using Classic Chinese Medicine (CCM) theories of Chi (Qi) energy and meridian pathways. I have had some wonderful feedback from clients using this approach alongside reflexology so I'm delighted to be able to share it with you. Please see the What is Reflexology section to learn more about Chi Medics.
