Welcome to Wellness Reflexology

What is reflexology and how does it work?

Reflexology is a non-invasive complementary health therapy that can be effective in promoting deep relaxation and wellbeing;

It is a touch therapy that is based on the theory that different points on the feet, hands or ears correspond with different areas of the body via the nervous system – reflexologists work these points and areas in a specific way depending on the client’s needs.

The calming touch of reflexology can activate the parasympathetic nervous system - the rest and digest relaxed element which is the opposite of the fight or flight that stress can induce.  It also helps to release feel good hormones, oxytocin, dopamine and endorphins. Sounds lovely right?

However reflexology is viewed, there can be no doubt that what it does provide is a period of time for relaxation where the client has one to one attention and supportive touch in an empathic listening environment. Reflexology can be used safely alongside standard healthcare to promote better health and wellbeing.

What is Chi Medics?

According to Classic Chinese Medicine (CCM) Chi is not just human energy, it's universal energy - the building blocks of the universe.  Chi is matter just before manifestation (interestingly quantum physics is based on a similar theory)

Imbalances of Chi

There are two types of imbalance, Yin imbalance and Yang imbalance

Yin imbalance or Deficient Chi is where there is insufficient Chi to do it's job. It is characterised by underactivity, coolness and emptiness

Yang imbalance or Excess Chi (also called Stagnant Chi) is where there is too much Chi in an organ, meridian or acu-point and where the normal movement of Chi is impaired - Chi does not move through the body in a smooth and orderly fashion.  Excess Chi is characterised by overactivty and excessive movement, heat, redness, inflammation and hardness.

Chi energy runs in pairs (Yin and Yang) and when treating the person we aim to balance  by dialling down excess and boosting insufficiency.  Each organ of the body is associated with certain characteristics when out of balance - for example if Heart Chi is in excess this means heat and could show up as inflammation, dry skin, redness, difficulty urinating.  Heart Chi is also associated with self love, self acceptance and this Chi is paired with Small Intestine Chi - our small intestines are where we absorb nutrients from our food.  So if someone had an imbalance in their Heart and Small Intestine Chi pathway they may not feel they deserve love and affection and may not absorb nutrients well.  They may be therefore of very slim build and reject kindness towards themselves.

Therefore Chi Medics via the feet aims to work specific Chi Organ points to bring about balance for the whole person.  This approach when combined with Reflexology has resulted in some of the most wonderful feedback from my clients.   Why not come and try it for yourself!
