  • What is reflexology?

Long Term Conditions

Reflexology is one of the most popular types of complementary therapy in the UK among people with cancer and long term conditions such as fibromylagia or IBS.   Many clients feel their sleep improves and they feel better able to cope after a reflexology treatment

Cancer or Long Term Health Conditions

Receiving a diagnosis of cancer or other life-limiting disease can have a devastating impact on your emotions, your lifestyle, and your overall wellbeing.

While reflexology is not a cure for disease, and should never be used in place of medicinal or surgical treatments, it is a safe and comfortable therapy which can ease some of your distressing symptoms:

Pain relief

Some research, and many reflexology clients, have found that the deep relaxation and rest induced by reflexology can soothe pain.

Emotional wellbeing

Reflexology is a deeply relaxing and restorative experience. It can help to lower the stress hormones in the body, relieving muscle tension and inducing a sense of wellness. It is also invaluable time to rest and focus on your own self-nurture.

Sleep

The physical pain and emotional distress of a long-term condition or cancer diagnosis can impact on our ability to rest and sleep. Reflexology can lead to significant improvements in sleep quality, reducing sleep disturbance and allowing your body to rest and recuperate.

Symptom reduction

Those who complement treatments such as chemotherapy with reflexology often report less fatigue, pain, and associated anxiety.

Digestive issues

While the impact of reflexology on IBS is currently under-researched, there is evidence that it can be particularly beneficial for the relief of constipation which can be a side effect of many long term health conditions and medications.

Fibromyalgia

Some studies have found that reflexology can help with fibromyalgia symptoms. One study found that reflexology relieved pain in multiple areas of the body, including the head, neck, and arms. Another study found that reflexology reduced pain intensity in patients with fibromyalgia, and that the decrease improved over the first six weeks of treatment.

I understand that you may not always feel well enough or be able to travel so please do feel free to contact me to discuss a home visit.

However treating clients in their own homes comes with the understanding that there is a suitable environment, noise free as far as possible, completely smoke free and safe.  Friendly pets if kept under control are welcome as are children.  If I am at all unable to work in your environment and this is established when I arrive then no treatment will take place. This will be entirely at my own discretion.
